Site suvey for site 3

On May 9, 2011 Travis, Riley, and Olivia went to Site 3 at Douglas Creek our site is 100ft long. First I’ll tell about our site’s channel. The shape in the cross-section was a U. The longitudinal pattern was meandering. Next I’ll tell you about the reach habitat. The number of riffles was1the percentage of riffles was 10%. The number of pools was 1 the percentage of pools were 15%. The woody debris was moderate. The organic debris was sparse. Now I’ll tell you about the riparian zone when you’re looking down stream 100ft down. On the right its 50-100ft wide and on the left bank it was the same. That’s all in the riparian zone. Next I’ll tell you about the vegetation the conifer has 0% the deciduous has 30% the shrubs have 50% the grass and herbs have 75%. Now I’ll tell you about the over head canopy. It’s 0-25%. Next I’ll tell you about the stream bank the vegetation cover was abundant. Next I’ll tell you about the artificial structures. In stream reach there are some litter/garbage and a port a potty. In conclusion our site is very interesting.

Water Quality Conclusion for 2011 Site 3

The water is good at Douglass creek, the vegetation is getting bigger from are last visit. The first time we went there, the plants were small and on the last trip they were really big. Some were taller then me. We caught 20 Macro invertebrates 15 aquatic worms and 5 beetles. The water was too deep and to fast making it very hard to get macro-invertebrates. We could not get any good bugs. The dissolved oxygen content is 70%. 90% is the best oxygen the organic derbies are eating the oxygen. The ph avg. is 8 it is good for life. The temperature is 47 F. the temperature is good until 72F. In conclusion the water is good.
